Many diasporas are struggling with the decision to visit or relocate or not to relocate and where to in Africa. The following books by Author, Nana Akua Kyerewaa Opokuwaa are her first hand experiences as she was making an informed transition to live in Ghana. The first book "Akan Protocol: Remembering the Traditions of our Ancestors" was written as a result of her images and explanations related to her visits to royals, formal and informal events, villages and towns on her first trip to Ghana. She was one of two on this tour who had a hands-on introduction to the protocols and cultural traditions. During this maiden tour, in many instances, Nana Kyerewaa was traumatized until she finally realized that this trip was actually an exercise in remembering.
In her second book "The Quest for Spiritual Transformation,...", Nana Kyerewaa describes many of the rituals of the Akan Akom Tradition, and the spiritual beliefs of her ancestors as she embarked upon training to become àn Akan Akom Priestess. This is one of the traditional spiritual orders of West Africa practiced by initiates in the United States and other areas where the Diaspora community has settled during the Middle Passage. She was ordained as a Traditional Akan Priest (Okomfo) and continued in her practice to become a Bosomfo in the Akan Akom Tradition.
The third book "Aduane Ye De", is a book of recipes that delighted Nana Kyerewaa's taste buds during this journey to transform her life to represent a different culture that embraced her true ancestry. In 2008, Nana repatriated to Ghana subsequently obtaining her dual citizenship in Ghana and USA. This book gives explicit instructions about cooking, serving and eating Ghanaian food from several of the 12 regions of Ghana. It is written for the culinary experts, the curious about their African ancestral foods and those who just enjoy trying different kinds of cuisine.
